This Symposium was organized and hosted by The Faculty of Textiles and Leather Engineering under the auspices of The Romanian Academy of Technical Sciences. Also, it was registered as an event within the "The Technical University Days" festivities.
The Symposium included presentations on topics relevant to the proposed theme from specialists of 8 countries - Romania, Moldova, Russia, France, Germany, Turkey, India and Slovenia.
The Symposium was honored by the presence of well known specialists, among which Prof. Aristide Dodu, honour member of the Romanian Academy of Technical Sciences, Prof. Alexander Smirnov, PhD, Vice-Rector of the Textiles Academy in Iavanovo, Russia, Assist. Prof. Zoran Stejpanovic, PhD, from the Faculty of Textiles, Maribor - Slovenia and member of AUTEX board, Prof. M.Cetin Erdogan, PhD, from the Faculty of Engineering, Izmir - Turkey, as well as representatives of the textiles industry and business community.
The opening was hosted by the Rector of "Gh. Asachi" Technical University of Iasi, Professor Nicolae Badea, PhD, and the introductory speech was delivered by Professor Mihai Ciocoiu, PhD, stating the purpose of the Symposium, welcoming the guests and thanking the audience for participation.

Professor Ciocoiu also thanked the organizers of the Symposium, underlining the honouring assistance provided by the Romanian Academy of Technical Sciences which agreed to act as a scientific patron of the event.
The Rector congratulated the audience for participation and  Assist. Prof. Mariana Ursache, PhD, Vice-Dean, made a presentation of the Faculty in English - evolution, mission, structure and contents.
The plenary ended with the intervention of Prof. Aristide Dodu, PhD, who presented the latest development of SIT-AGIR, ''The Manual of the Textile Engineer", which was awarded the AGIR prize in 2005. He also presented the first 3 volumes of the ''Explicative Textile Dictionary", edited in 6 languages under the patronage of the Romanian Academy and to which professionals from the Faculty of Textiles in Iasi co-authored. Finally, Mr Dodu awarded a number of diplomas to participant specialists with authority in the field.

The Symposium sections followed the plenary and the evening ended with a cocktail at "Casa Universitarilor" as another opportunity to network and tighten existing working relations among the attending specialists.

The Symposium sections continued the following day, more than 90 presentations in all, comprised in the 650 page volume which was printed in outstanding quality to mark the occasion.
In the end, both participants and organizers concluded that they had been part of an especially interesting meeting, as can be quoted from the many messaged sent after the event ended:

"The cooperation between the Department of Textiles, Faculty of Mechanical Maribor, Slovenia and Faculty of Textiles and Leather Iasi, Romania, started already in 1995, when we, together with some other European institutions, prepared the first joint project on quality aspects in weaving. The second project, a network related to optimisation of the weaving process, followed in 1997. My collaboration with esteemed Prof. Mihai Ciocoiu originates from these projects; afterwards we established good cooperation concerning the Romanian Textile and Leather Journal.

Also this was the reason that I wanted to participate actively at the International Symposium PERTEX 2005. I had to overcome some transportation problems to come to Iasi, but finally I did not regret. The scientific/professional part of the conference was correctly and professionally carried out. I was also lucky to have very kind hosts who invited me to join some social events and even to show me some attractions of the city. I must say, Iasi has many important and beautiful historical buildings and places. I took home with me a lot of new information on textile engineering and nice memories on kind people and the city."
